The Prince and Princess of Wales arrived in Boston today as they begin their three-day tour of the United States.
The princess wore one dress for the flight from London and arrival at the airport, then changed into another look for the official welcome downtown.
Their British Airways flight landed at Boston’s Logan Airport shortly after 2 p.m. Below, the couple chats with Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker, who greets them at the airport.
Also extending their greetings this afternoon were Massachusetts First Lady Lorraine Baker and Lt. Governor Caryn Polito.
Another view of the royals at the airport.
Shortly after their arrival, a message about the visit was posted on Kensington Palace’s social media accounts. It contained a poignant reference to the Prince’s grandmother.
Here you see Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at City Hall during that visit in 1976.
During their stay, the royals drove a hybrid Range Rover. In this video of the motorcade en route to City Hall, you can see how heavy the rain was this afternoon.

Crowds waited in the wind and rain to catch a glimpse of the royal visitors.
They were seen keeping their spirits high despite the inclement weather.
Earlier today the UK flag was raised at City Hall.

More about the meeting from hello there story.
The mayor was joined by her husband Connor Pewarski and their sons Cass and Blaise. Mayor Wu’s team worked closely with Earthshot Awards prior to the event.
She was elected mayor in 2021, winning with 64% of the vote, becoming the first woman, first person of color, and first Asian-American elected to serve as Boston’s mayor.
We return to Simon Perry people pieces.
The heir to the throne thanked Wu and the people of Boston for supporting the Earthshot Awards.
“Thank you very much for your help,” he said. “I think people are excited about the award.”
After the chat, everyone went out. In this photo, you can see the mayor, his family, and Commonwealth Attorney General-elect Governor Maura Haley (blue coat).

Prince and Princess Maura watch Hayley talk.
Then it was time for Prince William’s comments.
More from Simon Perry people story.
As he took the stage, William told the excited crowd gathered outside Boston City Hall, “Thank you Mayor Wu and thank you Bostonians who braved the rain!”
“There are two reasons why Boston was the obvious choice to be the home of the EarthShot Prize in its second year,” he continued. “Sixty years ago, President John F. Kennedy’s “Moonshot” speech posed a challenge to American innovation and ingenuity. ‘We choose to go to the moon,’ he said, ‘not because it is easy but because it is hard.’
The Prince added, “Like President Kennedy, Catherine and I firmly believe that we all have it within us to achieve great things and that people have the power to lead, innovate and solve problems.”
After the Prince spoke, members of the royal family, Mayor Wu and Governor-Elect Haley pressed a button to light City Hall green.
In addition to lighting the City Hall green, hello According to the report, “…buildings illuminated with green light include the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, the skyscraper 100 Federal St., Atlantic Wharf, the Government Center and TD Garden, home of the NBA’s Boston Celtics.”
Now for our look at today’s ensembles.
The princess appears to be wearing Alexander McQueen, the brand’s leaf crepe jacket and coordinating trousers. There has been much discussion as to whether the navy look is worn in September when HMS Glasgow (below left) meets the sailors, or in the same style but in amethyst (two images on the right), the color of a past season.
Tracking Royals suggests the style is the amethyst hue, and the Middleton maven thinks it’s highly possible. Others believe it’s a navy look. I can’t really say, but if pressed to pick one, I’d lean towards the purple. We know the Princess has this jacket and a pair of color-coordinating trousers, and it’s not hard to imagine she bought it when it was available.
As you can imagine, the color controversy included the pumps worn by the princess. Below you can find the Gianvito Rossi 105 in navy (left) and the Gianvito 105 ($775) in black at My Theresa, as well as FWRD and Nordstrom.
The princess wore sapphire and diamond earrings that belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales.
We first saw her wearing double-cluster earrings in Trooping the Color back in June.
Now for the attire worn for the City Hall event.
The princess wore a tartan Burberry dress and an Alexander McQueen coat. with Thanks Laura As for ID, it looks like a customized version of the ‘Aurora’, which was shown at Nordstrom in pink sequins and black fur on the list, along with a Burberry tartan kilt that Laura shared. The dress is a midi style with long sleeves, asymmetrical draping at the front and a round neck.
Couture and Royals on Twitter It has been suggested that the Princess may be wearing tartan today in honor of St Andrew’s Day, and I think she is probably right. I will update you more about the quote but wanted to get at least that much of the published post.
The princess carried a new Mulberry handbag, the Amberley Small Satchel ($1035). “Its shape and hardware are borrowed from equestrian styling,” says the brand. It features a “rider’s lock closure” in goldtone hardware, an adjustable length shoulder strap, and measures 6″ x 7″ x 3″ deep. Thanks to Kate Middleton Style Middleton maven and Carly for the handbag ID.
Her heels are probably the green Amy London Rebecca.
Princess Shyala wore London’s new earrings, Chunky Knot Baroque Pearl Style ($72), crafted in 22-karat gold over silver.
Shyla notes on her about page that “our stones are natural and our metals are sourced or recycled on principle,” adding that their packaging is all recycled material. Thanks to Efthalia for her tip about style.
Prince and Princess at tonight’s Boston Celtics game; I am working on that engagement in a separate post. Below, the Prince and Princess with Mayor Wu and Governor-Elect Haley.
On a related note, it looks like the Prince and Princess will meet with President Biden on Friday while in Boston. More from this quick video with White House Press Secretary Karin Jean-Pierre.
