The Duchess in Vibrant Red Separates for Action on Addiction Speech – Ki Kate

The Duchess opted for rich red separates for today’s Action on Addiction speech.

The event was held at the BAFTA headquarters in London.

The event was hosted by the Forward Trust; Patron of the Duchess Trust. He was there to officially launch the Taking Action on Addictions campaign and deliver a keynote address. (Some may recall that he was a royal patron of Action on Addiction for many years; that organization merged with the Forward Trust in April.)

The Duchess of Cambridge warned “none of us are immune to addiction”.

In his speech, he highlighted the epidemic’s “devastating impact” on addiction rates. The Duchess said: “Addiction is not a choice. Nobody likes to be addicted. But it can happen to any of us. None of us are immune.

Kate met with Forward Trust beneficiaries, as well as ex-addicts to hear their experiences.

Her speech highlighted the importance of tackling misconceptions about addiction and its roots in childhood experiences, one of Kate’s main reasons for her royal work.

The launch of the long-term campaign – which will work to improve awareness and understanding of addiction, its causes and enable more people in society to seek and receive help – coincides with Addiction Awareness Week (October 18-24).

“The journey to addiction is often multi-layered and complex. But, by identifying what lies beneath the addiction, we can help remove the stigma and shame that sadly surrounds it.”

Taking Action Against Addiction is a long-term campaign that will work to improve awareness and understanding of addiction. It looks at its causes and scale in society to enable more people to seek and receive help.

The Duchess added, “I fully support the ‘Taking Action on Addiction’ campaign to improve awareness and understanding of addiction. The campaign will show us that not only can many people recover from addiction, they can go on to thrive.”
